I'd be happy for a competition if everyone else agrees to it, i was thinking the same thing timpertie but wasn't sure if ppl would go for it, i can put a poll on the ponyfair website, bear in mind i only have access like everyone else does on the board, so i can't do mass emails or polls to all the members thats an admin only privledge of which i have no control over there, however i do here....if everyones ok with that then i'll put the poll on that board only, also bear in mind all of our 2010 fair planning will be stuck on the 2009 category for the same reason

Yes, a competition would be a great way to go about it - the more ideas the better, and the more likely we'd find our mascot. Heck, I wouldn't have thought up the roo-emu highfive one, and it's really quite a cute idea of Mewchans. Couldn't we get one of the actual admin people on the ponyfair forum to put up the voting though? Since this is for the aussie mascot, they should be happy to help out and to make a new 2010 board for discussion on there too (so that it doesn't fall under the 2009 category). Keeping it on Aus ponyfair will help keep it Aussie vote only so that most Australians get to pick for the mascot they like best. Other thoughts for the competition: - perhaps we should provide a lineart to avoid bias based on the drawing ability rather than creativity? as in, we want to focus on the design and colour rather than how well they can draw their lines. So we can just use an image from a colouring book, or if you want I or maybe mewchan, if she wants, can do one up.
- would we need prizes? or should we make the prize just the honor of having designed the Aussie mascot?
- we can post up the mascots options already designed so that we don't get design overlap and maybe they will lead to the creation of new ideas.
- and then there's the restriction on using a character design too similiar to AusMLP's persona; I think we should avoid entries with ponies too close a resemblance to ausMLPs pony, to prevent confusion between her persona and our Aussie mascot, and just out of respect for AusMLP.
Any other competition thoughts?

silvershadow you have hit all the nails on the head there as for admin on the ponyfair board that is miss_skaife, i can leave a msg with her but i wouldn't know if and when she might get it thats why i was doing more stuff here because i have the admin rights, but i'll shot her a msg and see what i can do, unfortunatly these boards differ a lot from the others its one person with the admin rights. I agree with the lineart, much easier to work with, perhaps we do a g1 style pony, i'm happy for you or mew_chan to do one up because i don't think there is a lot on the arena site in the lineart section In regards to prizes or the prize being that you designed the mascot perhaps we could get opinions of the members see which they would prefer And yes i agree we should put restrictions on designing something similars to ausmlp's persona.

Hnn, miss_skaife.. she's been scarce lately has she? It sounded like she was before.. Aren't there any moderators on the forum with some admin powers? It is possible to do that on proboards. And yes, opinions from others would be helpful right now If mewchan doesn't have the time to do a lineart, I can quickly whip one up (maybe also allow options of pegasus or unicorn ponies? or would we rather keep it at earther ponies?)

hey silvershadow, nope moderators can only do things like stick threads, lock them, nothing to do with admin which is a pity i think perhaps just keep her to an earth pose, less confusing that way

Settling for a logo/design for Ausssie MLP logo looks like being a challenge! I really like the red/white/blue with the flag on her but and the stars about as on the Website pony. Is this too much like AusMLP's persona? Naturally I would prefer a G1 pony................ You are all so talented with your computer skills - no to mention the artistic talent! Green and gold is always sporting colours - Olympics, soccer, rugby, cricket - done to death! To highlight our bare red centre and kanagoos is a bit boring too - most of us live on the coastal edges! I personally like the red white and blue - just have to get an acceptable logo!! Just my 5c worth! I leave it to you clever "young things" !

Hnn, well I've used proboards in the past and there is a way to make specific groups of members that can have admin powers - though the admin can select which powers they can and cannot have. This includes creating new boards and modifying them. I dunno what chance there is of miss_skaife making a new member group to allow some trusted members with limited super powers though. and okies to earth only Thanks henpatch for your word of suggestion. AusMLPs persona is the blue body with the red/white hair with the southern cross stars on her, so I guess anything not like hers should be ok. And I agree with the brown and kangaroo theme - a lot of people do live by the coast and probably have never really seen the inner mainland of Australia, so it's not particularly representative, and probably more of a cliche tourist image *shrug* but I'm sure we should be able to find one we are all happy with

I would be happy to provide some line art for other people to use... it will probably just be the same as the previous stuff but its something... but yes I am a bit busy doing other things at the moment and it is hard for me to find the time to actually play around with new ideas (I actually did the 2 designs posted earlier in my lunch time) If I can I will try comming up with other ideas but cannot garrentee anything. When posting the competition I would really suggest that you make sure you let people know about the free colouring programs out there like GIMP so people are not restricted to slightly dodgy colouring programs such as MS paint. EDIT: actutally while I am thinking about it here is the lineart I used. In PNG format URL: i9.photobucket.com/albums/a77/midnightjackel/ausAdultlines.pngTwo other older line arts people might want to use. awww, MSN Paint isn't dodgey - I quite like using it, though it takes ages to get good effects out of it, and you'd need a lineart that is clean for MSN paint for use (your two second ones look like they'd be ok with Paint). Though yeah, the other programs like GIMP and openCanvus are probably easier to use and give better effects. I really like the crumpet pose - she's got lots of space on her flank for a shiny new symbol I'm curious though mewchan, is that drawing done in pencil or a compy program? It looks like pencil, but the lineart is so clean.

i downloaded gimp to give it a try, its certainly different as i've only ever used paint shop pro but from what i saw it was quite good, just need to find time to get in there and have a good play around with it
